This seminar creates a nurturing space for those who have been wounded by religious institutions yet still yearn for connection with the divine. Through explorative reading and writing, we'll reclaim spiritual narratives that affirm rather than deny our full humanity. We'll study diverse texts that challenge harmful theological interpretations around queerness, disability, sexuality, and embodiment. From Genesis to Galeano, O'Connor to Irigaray, Nietzsche to Von Bingen, we'll examine how writers have reimagined, questioned, and transformed religious traditions to make room for marginalized experiences. This course invites participants to engage with difficult questions: How might we write new spiritual narratives that hold space for our whole selves? What can religious texts teach us about storytelling, even as we critique them? How can writing become an act of healing and reclamation?
